Aspergers syndrome

Asperger’s syndrome is a neurological developmental disorder of the autism spectrum. It is a relatively mild form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASF) and can be considered as an intermediate between autism and normality. Asperger’s syndrome may appear a little later than in children with other forms of ASF, and is due to a dysfunction in the brain. The syndrome is often discovered only after the encounter with school life, where the social demands on children take up more space. Many people with Asperger’s syndrome are first diagnosed as adults because it first became part of the diagnosis system in Denmark in 1994. People with Asperger’s syndrome differ from others in the autism spectrum by e.g. to have a well-developed language, as well as by being really good at immersing oneself.

SYMPTOMS

People with Asperger’s syndrome are normally gifted, and some are even very highly gifted, but they are challenged in social interaction. They can talk constantly and for a long time about the same subject. They do not notice whether the surroundings find their speech interesting, nor do they listen to the speeches of others. Children with Asperger’s syndrome may have a language development where they either start speaking there very early or very late. They can be difficult for other children to play with as they will control the game. In addition, they have problems with change. Due to their lack of closeness, they have a hard time making friends and achieving close relationships. In addition, mental problems can occur during puberty. Every fifth d is diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome is a girl.

TREATMENT IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM

In principle, you do not medicate. As with other forms of autism, efforts are directed towards counselling and special pedagogical efforts in daycare institutions, schools and leisure time.

CAUSE

There is no single cause of Asperger’s syndrome or other forms of developmental disorders. Research shows that there are many factors that play together. Several studies suggest that heredity is important and it is not uncommon to see several in the same family get the diagnosis.

NORDIC CLINICS TREATMENT

At the Nordic Clinic, our therapists work on the basis of the principles of the consensus report Defeat Autism Now and the education organization Autism Research Institute. www.autism.com

We treat both children and adults with Asperger’s syndrome. Regardless of the wording of the diagnosis, the starting point is always the person’s individual problems and biochemistry. In recent years, many studies have been published indicating that people with autism, including Asperger syndrome, often have disorders of bowel function. This can result in incomplete digestion of, among other things, milk and gluten. The incompletely digested parts are morphine-like substances that can affect behaviour. Part of the treatment at Nordic Clinic is based on a urine sample that assesses the formation of these neuropeptides from milk and gluten. Many have an overgrowth of fungi and bacteria. It came more often as expressions such as thin stomach, foul-smelling stools or abdominal pain. This can be examined by a urine sample.

Heavy metal loads can also play a role. Nordic Clinic can, among other things, examine for heavy metal loads with a urine collection. Mild cleaning of heavy metals may be included as part of the treatment. The clinic provides guidance in nutrition, recipes, dietary supplements, and you get good advice to make everyday life successful with a child on a diet. The recommendations are based on the analysis answers, and there will be a strong focus on the child having his or her nutritional needs covered. The treatment can take place in parallel with other treatment measures.
