Insulin resistance

Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body does not respond optimally to the hormone insulin. This inhibits glucose uptake into the cells and elevated sugar levels can be seen despite the body producing abundant insulin.

SYMPTOMS

Syndrome X is the term for a number of symptoms that can occur with insulin resistance. It is i.a. symptoms such as high blood sugar, obesity primarily on the stomach, fatigue, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and possibly unwanted hair growth.

THE TREATMENT IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM

Your doctor may measure your blood sugar, but even if it is high and indicates insulin resistance, insulin is often only prescribed when insulin resistance has developed into type 2 diabetes. There can be guidance in diabetes diet.

CAUSES

Consuming a diet high in refined carbohydrates and low in important building blocks such as vitamins, minerals and good fatty acids is of great importance. Lack of exercise and hereditary conditions are also of great importance in the lifestyle factors that lead to insulin resistance.

TREATMENT AT NORDIC CLINIC

At Nordic Clinic, we have good experience with the treatment of insulin resistance. The goal is to lower blood sugar through a diet that will reduce elevated insulin production and improve the ability of insulin to transport glucose into the cells. Together with exercise and small lifestyle changes, this can alleviate insulin resistance and reduce the risk of developing comorbidities such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, obesity, cardiovascular problems and PCOS.

It may also be relevant to use different genetic tests. We also have very good experiences with implementing dietary changes for type-2 diabetics.
